THE LET DOWN PREMIERE: Judith Suminwa Tuluka Fails to Own Up to Her Promise & The Congolese People’s Expectations

While the Democratic Republic of Congo impatiently awaited the arrival of Judith Suminwa Tuluka to write a new chapter as new Prime Minister, the results of her first steps in government are now on the table and are sadly far from living up to expectations.

Instead of bringing a new breath of fresh air and a long-awaited impetus, Suminwa’s arrival leaves a feeling of disillusionment.

In a DR Congo that has already been exhausted by decades of bad governance, the new Prime Minister was presented with the opportunity to reframe past wanderings. Alas, it was a missed opportunity.

As soon as she arrived, Judith Suminwa Tuluka promised a dynamic of change and break the dubious practices that have long plagued the Congolese government action.

Promises of bold reforms are fading in the face of a much more prosaic reality, corruption remains omnipresent, public services continue to collapse, and the population, for its part, is desperately waiting for concrete decisions that are struggling to materialize.

It is hard not to wonder if Prime Minister Judith Suminwa is really aware of the realities on the ground as the challenges are enormous, and the expectations of the people are legitimate but instead of responding to these urgent concerns, the Premiere’s government have preferred to navigate murky waters, leaving the real problems unresolved.

Promises to improve health, education and infrastructure are met with a clear lack of political will and concrete action. The people no longer want empty speeches and call for palpable actions.

In reality, Judith Suminwa Tuluka’s management seems to be an extension of the practices of previous governments, rather than a real revival.

The initiatives that have been timidly launched so far are there only cover up the lack of ambition and to observing the state of affairs remins bitter. The hopes that the Congolese people placed in Judith Suminwa who was expeected to take of her people like a mother would, are fading day after day, and the results of her first steps are far below average.

The time has come for Judith Suminwa Tuluka to wake up and realize that words are not enough.
