Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) former president Joseph Kabila has returned in the country after over two years in self-imposed exile.
Kabila who has been out of the country since 2023, arrived in the eastern region city of Goma on Friday as he aims to partake in the peace efforts in the war-ravaged eastern DRC.
“I’ve cracked the floor of Goma. My return isn’t a visit, it’s a statement. The time of silences is revolutionary. The Congolese people deserve to be there, in pain as in action. This isn’t the beginning,” the former Congolese Head of State wrote on X.
Kabila has been accused by the ruling government of President Félix Tshisekedi of collaborating with the rampant AFC/M23 rebels and Rwanda who have seized the strategic territories of eastern DRC.
The former president is soon expected to make a public appearance to address the people of Goma over the ongoing security crisis in eastern DRC.
