United Nations Human Rights Council has called on the Democratic Republic of Congo to strengthen its human rights actions.
At the United Nations Human Rights Council held in Geneva on Tuesday, the DR Congo were reprimanded to reinstate the moratorium on the death penalty, which was suspended by Félix Tshisekedi’s government to target elimination of opposition members under the pretext of cracking down on war crimes in the east.
The Council Members further recommended that the DR Congo addresses issues such statelessness in refugee camps, press freedom, preventing gender-based sexual violence, banning early marriage, security in the East, and improving coverage of basic social services.
Member countries also expressed concerns about human rights in conflict zones, particularly in the East, where armed group militancy persists.
They also urged the DR Congo to take steps to end local and foreign armed conflicts.
