STOP THE KILLING: Amnesty International Calls on Congo Govt to Halt Mass Execution of Juveniles

Amnesty International have released stern statement to demand for the stop to the recent inhumane killing of young prisoners by the Congolese government.

On Monday, Minister of Justice Constant Mutamba signed documents for the execution of over 100 juveniles alleged to be urban bandits commonly known as the “Kuluna” in Kinshasa.

The young prisoners, ranging between the ages of 18 to 35, were transferred to the maximum security prison of Angenga in north-western DRC where they would be butchered to death at the permission of Mutamba.

“The news of these transfers is absolutely appalling. We fear imminent executions, amid a lack of reliable information on the status of those sentenced,” said Sarah Jackson, Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for East and Southern Africa.

Amnesty International has denounced the conditions under which the young prisoners have been transferred to Angenga, a prison where dozens of inmates have died in the past from starvation and diseases.
