SPORTING & DIPLOMATIC TRIP: Tshisekedi Expected In Abidjan For Leopards’ AFCON Semi-Final

Republican President Fèlix Tshisekedi is expected in the Ivorian capital Abidjan to attend Wednesday’s 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash between the DR Congo and the hosts Ivory Coast.

The Leopards take on the Elephants of Ivory Coast on Wednesday evening in a blockbuster clash to be played at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium of Ebimpé for a place in the final after fairytale run at the tournament.

President Tshisekedi’s sporting yet diplomatic trip to Abidjan has since been confirmed ahead of the crucial encounter for Sebastien Desabre and his Leopards.

Tshisekedi is set to lead a delegation of 200 on the trip that is expected fosters regional connections and showcasing the power of sports to unite nations.

DR Congo will be looking to reach their first AFCON final since 1974 as they face the Elephants of Ivory Coast who last won the tournament in 2017.

The Leopards reached the semi-finals after coming from a goal down to beat Guinea 3-1 last week in Abidjan.
