Opposition leader Seth Kikuni has been convicted to one year in prison for alleged and unfounded charges of inciting civil disobedience and spreading false information.
On Wednesday, the Kinshasa-Gombe Peace Court delivered this verdict even despite the prosecutor’s failure to prove the charges slapped against Kikuni.
During his appearance in court yesterday, Kikuni stated that his conviction constitutes an attack on his freedom of expression while his defense team prepares to appeal the verdict.
The public prosecutor had initially requested a three-year prison sentence, accompanied by a fine of 950,000 FC against Kikuni.
Kikuni was falsely accused of having made remarks to incite the population of Haut-Katanga Province to disobey the laws of the country after he denounced impostor president Félix Tshisekedi’s bogus call for dialogue between his government and the opposition.
