SELFISH LEADER: Tshisekedi Approves Increase of Salaries For National Deputies In 2024

Outgoing DRC President Fèlix Tshisekedi is targeting to allocate himself and his camp even more riches if re-elected back into office as president.

President Tshisekedi has controversially approved the motion to increase salaries for national deputies by a outrageous 26.3% starting January, 2024.

This increase of national deputy’s salaries comes at a time when the government is struggling to contain the various challenges from lack of medicines, famine and water across the country.

Under the finance law n°23/056 of December 10, 2023 for the 2024 financial year, Tshisekedi has approved for revenue and expenditure of FC 40,986.0 billion, which representing an increase rate of 26.3℅ compared to the budget for the 2023 financial year which was FC32,456.8 billion.

The new law approved by Tshisekedi will see national deputies to be elected 2024 receive a monthly salary of US$33,000 which has increase of US$12,000 compared to the year 2023.

In a country where the average civil servant earns just a mere $250, several civil society organizations have requested for a reduction in the standard of living for parliamentarians to balance with other government structures’ emoluments.

However, the plea of the average Congolese does not seem to be of concern for Tshisekedi and his camp who are determined to fill their pockets.
