RISING DICTATOR: Tshisekedi Regime Singled Out By International Community For Illegalities & Lack of Respect For Human Rights

The international community and human right advocates have continued to show concern over the ongoing situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo with the sitting government for it’s part in numerous anomalies happening.

Former US Secretary of State Herman J. Cohen has bemoaned the ongoing illegalities and unjust incarcerations of the opposition by President Fèlix Tshisekedi’s government.

Cohen said President Tshisekedi and his regime had created little of room for equal competition for the opposition with the ongoing imprisonment of its members ahead of the Presidential Polls in December.

“The DRC regime must ensure political space for opposition groups to communicate with citizens. The current imprisonment of dissidents is totally unwarranted and illegal,” Cohen said.

President Tshisekedi recently swore publicly to imprison citizens that had differing opinions against his government.

“If the prisons have to be filled with uncivic people, they will be filled and nothing will change” President Tshisekedi said as he addressed residents of Mbuji-Mayi.

President Tshisekedi has been cited for allegedly ordering the arrests of a number of several opposition leaders including most notably Salomon Kalonda, an assistant of Ensemble Pour la Republique party leader Moïse Katumbi.
