The government of the Republic of Rwanda have strongly refuted accusations that it had carried out Friday’s bombing attacks on a displaced people’s camp in the DR Congo’s eastern city of Goma in North Kivu Province.
On Saturday, the Rwandan government issued a statement to deny the Congolese government and US diplomatic represention in Congo’s accusations that it had been behind the bombing attacks.
However, Rwandan government spokesperson Yolande Makolo swept aside the allegations which she described as “ridiculous” and “absurd” on Saturday.
“The RDF, is a professional army, and would never attack an internally displaced person camp, it is the criminals of FDLR and the Wazalendo, supported by the FARDC, that would be responsible of this type of atrocities” Makolo said.
So far, no official death toll has been confirmed after bombings, although humanitarian sources claim that around ten people were killed.
The sad events also forced Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi to cut short his European tour as the government announced his return to Kinshasa this weekend.
