REPRESSIVE ORDERS: Police Clash with Peaceful Jean-Kabund Demonstrators

Several youths in the Democratic Republic of Congo yesterday took to the streets of Kinshasa to call for the release of Jean-Marc Kabunda, the personal prisoner of dictator president Félix Tshisekedi.

Kabund has been detained at Makala Central Prison at Tshisekedi’s order on trumped up charges of rebellion and plotting a coup against the president.

The youths from Kabund’s opposition political party were however, met by armed police forces who attacked the group causing injuries to several people.

Several other young people were also arrested for participating in the peaceful march and remain in police custody.

Kabund is a former vice-president of Tshisekedi who resigned from his role after refusing to partake in indiscriminate and acts of dictatorship against the people.
