REJECTED: UN Mission Gets Resistance From Masisi Residents

A UN convoy in Masisi fired gunshots to disperse angry residents who blocked it as they toured a rural Municipality.

Tension is high in the rural municipality of Masisi especially this afternoon, April 20, 2023.

Angry locals accusing Monusco of being weak with M23 rebels blocked the passage to a convoy of Monusco that wanted to enter the central parts of Masisi territory in
North Kivu.

“The situation is complicated. It happened at Masisi parish going towards Nyabiondo. The people did’t want the Monusco passage to penetrate Osso-Banyungu sector. The youth were determined to block the passage and Monusco
wanted to force its way so they used gunshots to disperse the crowd,” an eyewitness narrated.
