REJECTED: Kabila Refuses To Reconcile With Tshisekedi Despite Head Of State Involving Kikwete

Former president Joseph Kabila has reportedly turned down offers by President Felix Tshisekedi to reconcile ahead of the December 20, 2023 presidential election.

Kabila and Tshisekedi formed a loose alliance in 2018 which birthed the current presidency through a negotiated deal.

The two have since fallen out with Kabila and his FCC coalition refusing to participate in this year’s election citing constitutional irregularities.

After the fall out Tshisekedi has been making overtures to bring peace between the two parties but Kabila has stayed aloof.

Tshisekedi took his recent trip to Lubumbashi to try and meet Kabila through former Tanzanian president Jakaya Kikwete who is said to be
close to the Kabilas.

Tshisekedi reportedly approach
Kikwete to facilitate a reconciliation with Kabila but the latter again declined the offer.

However, Tshisekedi’s spokesperson Patrick Muyaya said no such initiative was held despite Tshisekedi hosting Kikwete.
