REJECTED GOVERNMENT: The Disabled Protest Against Tshisekedi’s Decision to Reappoint Incompetent Minister

Mass protests have broken out this Saturday morning in the Democratic Republic of Congo capital Kinshasa where people living with disabilities are protesting against the appointment of Ireine Esambo as Delegate Minister at the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Ireine Esambo retained her portfolio at the Ministry of Social Affairs in the new government unveiled last Wednesday by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka.

People living with disabilities have strong discontent over the reappointment of Ireine Esambo who abandoned them and their needs in her first tenure.

The disabled have particularly called out President Félix Tshisekedi with placards reading “Fatshi what choice? Ireine, never again.”

Tshisekedi threw out the association of people living with disabilities’ appeal against the appointment of Ireine Esambo.

Kinshasa’s Lumumba Boulevard, one of the main arteries in the city, barricaded the protestants with burning tires causing traffic in the capital.

The demonstrators have vowed not to leave the streets until Tshisekedi rescinds his decision to reappoint the minister.
