The M23 rebel group extended their operations and gained control of important towns in North Kivu’s neighbouring province of South Kivu this Tuesday.
The rebels were attacked by FARDC soldiers in the early hours of Monday provoking them to take control of Bweremana and Minova, two important agglomerations located on horseback in the provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu.
Minova is also a key commercial port for both provinces as it plays a crucial role in the transit of agricultural products to Goma city, either by lacustrine or by road.
The takeover is part of a series of recent retaliation operations by the M23 who had already taken control of the mining town of Lumbishi in Kalehe territory in South Kivu over the weekend.
