Late first President of Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) Mobutu Sese Seko’s surviving widow Maman Bobi Ladawa says she is ready to return to the DRC on one condition.
On Wednesday, Maman Bobi Ladawa met DR Congo’s Prime Minister Judith Suminwa in Rabat, Morocco where she has been residing.
The 79-year old first lady told the Prime Minister Suminwa of her willingness to return to the DRC but on the condition that she is provided with suitable housing.
“If I am offered a residence, I will return to the country,” she said.
Maman Bobi Ladawa specified that she would prefer staying in a hotel to enjoy luxurious accommodation but rather allow her to live with dignity in an ordinary housing in Kinshasa or Gbadolite.
Maman Bobi Ladawa’s statement echoes a reality that affects many historical and political figures of the DRC who are often faced with housing difficulties after many years spent abroad.
