Roger Tshisekedi, the older brother to the Republican President Fèlix Tshisekedi, is among the candidates in the upcoming elections for Senator in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Tshisekedi’s lines up on a list of prominent names running for the senatorial role on the ruling UDPS party including General Secretary Augustin Kabuya.
The statement released on Tuesday, the UDPS party have also adopted Gerard “Gecoco” Mulumba following his validation as national deputy.
Mulumba has since resigned from role as deputy governor of Kinshasa Province as his new elected position does not meet the criteria for the governorship.
Other candidates running in the senate elections on the UDPS include former Minister of Health Eteni Longondo in Tshuapa Province, Minister of Finance Nicolas Kazadi in Kasai-Orientral and the Civil Service chief Jean-Pierre Lihau in Mongala Province.
The Senate elections are scheduled for 31st March, 2024 while the polls for the governorship will take place on 7th April, 2024.
