The DR Congo women’s national team have qualified for the Morocco 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-1 win over Equatorial Guinea at the Pentecost Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa.
After managing a 1-1 draw in the first leg played last weekend in Malabo, the Leopards Dames came from a goal down to wrap their fourth WAFCON qualification with a late winner by Ruth Kipoyi this afternoon in Kinshasa.
Equatorial Guinea took the lead at the stroke of half-time through Reina Mansogo as the visitors looked to turn the tie into their favour with an important away goal.
However, it took just 10 minutes into the second-half for the Leopards Dames to equalize through TP Mazembe attacker Merveille Kanjinga.
With the match seemingly headed for a penalty shootout, Kipoyi turned up for her side to grab the winner in the 79th minute.
The win saw DR Congo secure their place at the WAFCON for the first time since the 2012 edition with a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.
