PREPARING FOR MORE FIGHTING: DR Congo Govt Launch Construction of Explosives & Artillery Making Plant

The government in the Democratic Republic of Congo have no immediate solutions to the growing insecurities in the country’s eastern but are rather preparing to furnish the the army and local militia affiliates to continue the fighting.

On Monday, Jean-Pierre Bemba, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of National Defense and Veterans Affairs, launched the construction of an industrial complex of the African Explosives Association (AFRIDEX) in Likasi of Haut-Katanga Province.

This complex will house a factory for the production of explosives and other military devices and host various production units of military equipment and materials from Congolese soil.

The construction work on this complex is being carried out by the Turkish company MKE and Norinco from China, two companies who have links with several mineral exploration sites in the DR Congo.

The Afridex project, according to the Congolese Ministry of Defence, is part of the implementation of the strategic partnership agreements, signed in May 2023 in Beijing, between President Felix Tshisekedi and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jin Ping.
