DR Congo’s impostor president Félix Tshisekedi’s constitution amendment bid could be facing two major obstacles as key figures Vital Kamerhe and Modeste Bahati Lukwebo remain silent on the topic.
Tshisekedi hopes to change the constitution in order to extend his stay in office but will need the support of Kamerhe and Bahati to gain majority vote of the National Assembly and the Senate.
Tshisekedi wants to ensure that 3/5 of both chambers will vote in favor of the text hence Kamerhe, President of the National Assembly, and Bahati, the President of the Senate, must be kept on board the boat.
However, Kamerhe could stand as a major threat for Tshisekedi given his long-term presidential ambitions having joined UDPS alliance with view of succeeding the latter after 2028.
