PEACE TALKS COMING SOON: Negotiations Meeting Between Félix Tshisekedi and Paul Kagame to Hold Peace Talks Underway

Angolan President João Lourenço has announced the ongoing negotiations for DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame to meet for peace talks to resolve the tensions between the two countries.

President Lourenço, the African Union (AU) appointed mediator for dialogue between DRC and Rwanda, says negotiations are underway to organize a meeting between the two leaders that would be held “very soon” as part of the efforts to achieve peace in eastern DRC.

“Angola is in search of definitive peace in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo, what I have to say is that we continue very optimistic whether it is late or early, we will naturally find the solution definitive which will give us peace for this brother country the Democratic Republic of Congo We have gone beyond this perspective, however today we are negotiating at ministerial level with the prospect of very soon being able to put the two together heads of state of the DRC and Rwanda, for a direct exchange on this situation with the aim of achieving peace in these two countries,” President João Lourenço told the press in Abidjan.

The security situation in eastern DR Congo has deteriorated causing a serious humanitarian crisis following intensive fighting between by the Congolese armed forces (FARDC) and the M23 rebels who are said to be supported by the Rwandan army.
