Former Democratic Republic of Congo Central Bank Governor and Economy Minister Pierre Pay-Pay Wa Syakasighe has died aged 77, in Belgium.
On Sunday via X (formerly Twitter), Catherine Kathungu Furaha, Congolese Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, confirmed the death of “P3” who died on Saturday, 2nd September 2023.
Meanwhile, incoming opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique President Moïse Katumbi has also paid tribute over to Syakasighe whom he described as a “big brother.”
“One of the great figures of the Congolese political scene has just left us. Recognized for his freedom of thought and his independence of mind, the former Governor of the Central Bank leaves the memory of a voice respected by the entire political class” Katumbi said.

Born July 10, 1946 in Bukavu and died September 2, 2023, Pierre Pay-Pay wa Syakasighe was a recognized economist and politician in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He had several positions of responsibility, including:
From 1980 to 1982: Minister of the Economy, Industry and Commerce
1984: President and CEO of commercial GECAMINES
From 1985-1991: governor of the current Central Bank of Congo
From 1992 to 1994: deputy in the transitional parliament following the sovereign national conference.
1994: Minister of Finance
In 2006, he lost the presidential election, but was elected national deputy.
