OKENDE’S ASSASSINATION: Katumbi Meets UN Rep On Investigations

Opposition Ensemble pour la République president Moise Katumbi has met the UN representatives to the Democratic Republic of Congo over investigation involving the assassination of party spokesperson Chérubin Okende.

Katumbi, his Chief of Staff Olivier Kamitatu and his Diplomatic Adviser John Mbongi met François Grignon the deputy special representative.

The popular former Katanga governor is determined to get justice for his official who was found dead in his car 24 hours after being kidnapped from the premises of the Constitutional Court.

Katumbi and his party, supported by a cross section of Congolese, believe an independent investigation will be critical to establishing circumstances leading to Okende’s murder.

The killing Okende, also a member of the opposition in parliament found dead on July 13, has reinforced the worries about the political process for democratic elections.

Found riddled with bullets in his car on one of the highways of the capital Kinshasa on Thursday morning, the body of Chérubin Okende will certainly haunt more than one political candidate.
