Provincial deputies in North Kivu Province have called on the national electoral board, CENI to complete its mandate and register voters in the towns of Masisi and Rutshuru.
Voter registration was disrupted and postponed indefinitely in the two towns following a state of emergency in the North Kivu capital, Goma.
The Provincial deputies in North Kivu have since expressed their concern over the situation as CENI have not revealed any plans to return to the said areas and have the citizens registered in order for them to practice in the December polls.
“This situation will have repercussions on the population of these two entities where the enrollment had not been organized for security reasons,” said the vice-president of the provincial assembly of North Kivu, Jean-Paul Lumbu Lumbu.
In addition, the provincial deputies have also appealed to the state to ease restrictions on the citizen’s freedom of movement that were placed following the state siege in the area.
