NO EXTRA CASH: Vital Kamerhe Rejects Tshisekedi’s Parliamentarians Proposal For Increased Salaries

Democratic Republic of Congo’s new National Assembly President Vital Kamerhe has rejected a proposal by national deputies from the ruling Union Sacreé Coalition’s to adjust upwards the lawmakers’ salaries.

Kamerhe was elected as head of Parliament beating Félix Tshisekedi’s favourite Christophé Mboso who with the approval of the president had promised the national deputies to increase their salaries in exchange of their votes in the election.

However, Kamerhe has overruled the proposal by the greedy Tshisekedi and Mboso national deputies to add to their frustrations with loopholes for corruption and bribery closing under the new head of the house.

On Saturday, Kamerhe reiterated before Parliament that the national deputies salary will remain at US$5,000 or 14 million Congolese francs.

“The salary of a national deputy is US$5,000 all benefits included“ Kamerhe affirmed, “Mrs Prime Minister we are not going to ask you for a salary increase.”

Prior to the National Assembly Presidential Election, Tshisekedi had also sent Union Sacreé General Secretary Augustin Kabuya to bribe national deputies with jeeps to strengthen the candidacy of Christophé Mboso.
