Respected Catholic clergyman Archbishop Fridolin Ambongo has hinted at whispers suggesting President Felix Tshisekedi will defer the election.
There is growing concern about the country’s readiness for the polls although candidates of various political parties are already criss-crossing cities marketing their messages.
President Tshisekedi has also made a few stops in west, north and central Congo.
However, Archbishop Ambongo told Catholic Youths that should President Tshisekedi will plunge the country into chaos if his government mismanages the December 20, 2023 election.
“At the level of CENI, we have no proof that there will be election on December 20. And even if
there will be, we’re not sure that it will take place under the best conditions of transparency.
“This means, that there is risk,
risk of disorder in our country,” he warned from the pulpit in Kinshasa.
Speculation is rife that fearing defeat, Tshisekedi wants to avoid the polls on December 20 and has taken a trip amidst campaigns to re-strategize.
