After two failed meetings planned for the two leaders to meet, the Southern and Eastern African regional bodies have collaborated once again in an effort to bring the waring countries’ to the negotiations table.
DR Congo president Félix Tshisekedi is scheduled to meet his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania on Saturday, 8th February 2025.
The meeting between Tshisekedi and Kagame has been arranged by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC).
This follows an agreement between the SADC Chairperson, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and the EAC Chairperson, Kenyan President Williams Ruto.
“President Samia Suluhu Hassan has graciously agreed to host the summit to deliberate on the situation in eastern DRC,” President Ruto announced.
Dar-es-Salaam will host a two-day joint summit between the SADC and EAC to discuss the current tensions between Rwanda and DR Congo over the insecurities in the latter’s eastern region.
