The city of Goma in North Kivu Province of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is experiencing a new glamour of hope under the new governance of the AFC/M23 rebel movement.
The AFC/M23 who have seized the entire eastern region of DRC, are establishing their own administration with some government services now functional.
In Goma, Julien Katembo has been appointed mayor by the AFC/M23 with the task of overseeing initiatives aimed at restoring a semblance of normality to Goma.
These initiatives include community sanitation projects, while the immigration service is now also back to issuing traveling documents.
In the transport sector, improvements in road safety can be acknowledged even as insecurity persists in some neighborhoods where the Wazalendo militia are believed to be hiding.
