The governments of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda have reached an agreement to sign a new document under which the two nations will work together to peacefully neutralize presence of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels in the two countries.
The agreement was made this Monday in Luanda, Angola as the two nations’ representatives continue to continue to discuss ways of restoring peace in the war-plunged eastern DRC territory under the mediation of Angola.
Under the document named as the Concept of Operations (CONOP) the two nations hope to be guided on how to implement and harmonized neutralization of the FDLR.
The FDLR is an armed rebel group active in eastern DR Congo consisting of a Hutus who oppose the ethnic Tutsi influence and is one of the last factions of Rwandan rebels active in Congolese territory.
