NATURAL DISASTER: Govt. To Send Aid Mission to Lisala After Devastating Landslide

DR Congo Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde has revealed that government plans to send an aid mission to offer assistance and ascertain the damage caused by a devastating landslide that struck the town of Lisala, Mongala Province.

On the night of 16/17 September 2023, Lisala was hit by a landslide following torrential rains killing 17 people and destroying several houses and property.

To deal with this crisis, Sama Lukonde revealed that a mission from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Humanitarian Action would be sent to Lisala to provide emergency support to disaster victims as well as help in the burial arrangements for the deceased.

More aid missions were to be deployed to other towns and territories affected natural disasters including Kalehe in North Kivu Province as well as three other territories in Kasai Central Province.

The Provincial Youth Council in Mongala have also alerted government of the another territory, Akulu, currently in distress after torrential rains.
