Opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique party leader and football enthusiast Moïse Katumbi has backed the DR Congo national team to go all the way and win the ongoing 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.
The Leopards begin their campaign at the tournament in San Pédro, Ivory Coast this evening as they take on rivals and neighbouring Zambia at the Laurent Pokou Stadium.
Katumbi, the owner of giant club TP Mazembe and a key figure in Congolese football, has since offered his support to the Leopards whom he says can deliver a third AFCON title to the nation.
“I wish our valiant Leopards every success in this first match against the Eagles of Zambia. Conquering the Cup is within our reach! Let our dream come true!” Katumbi wrote on X.
Sebastien Desabre coached Leopards will look to open their Group F campaign with a positive result against the rejuvenated Chipolopolo of Zambia.
Tonight’s fixture will be a replay of the historic encounter of 1974 AFCON final that became the first to be played over two days in football history.
