MONSTERS FATSHI CREATED: Wazalendo Militia Clash FARDC in Uvira

Government-backed local Wazalendo militia group has rebelled against state in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where they clashed with with Congo Armed Forces (FARDC).

The violent clashes between the Wazalendo and FARDC took place on Thursday in two neighborhoods of the city of Uvira, South Kivu.

According to local sources, the clashes began around 5:00 a.m. in Kasenga before spreading to the hills overlooking the city.

The Wazalendo, a local militia group that had been supported and financed by President Félix Tshisekedi to collaborate with the FARDC in fighting the AFC-M23 rebels, have turned against the government as they look control and manage certain positions in the city of Uvira and surrounding areas.
