Fighting between two factions of the North Kivu Province’s government backed Wazalendo militia group has led to the death of at least seven people in the town of Sake.
The fracas broke out after a dispute over collection of taxes at the barrier leading to Kitshanga between two factions of the Wazalendo, who have been hired by Félix Tshisekedi to support the Congo Armed Forces (FARDC) in the war against the M23 rebels.
Local sources have exclusively revealed that both factions records deaths as well as several injuries during the bloodied contest that was characterized by gunfire.
The Wazalendo militiamen have erected barriers in this operational zone where they collect taxes from civilians instead of facing the M23 rebels who are continuing their advancement.
