Desperately looking for any evidence to use against opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique President Moïse Katumbi, a group of armed military officers attempted to raid the opposition leader’s old property in Kananga of Kasai Central Province.
On Friday night, a group armed men clad in the Congolese National Armed Forces (FARDC) uniforms were seen at Katumbi’s old house situated around Kananga Airport and right next to the military auditor’s office in the commune of Kananga.
According to the property caretaker Joseph-Guélord Beya, armed military officers had surrounded the property but fled the scene after noticing the arrival of police who were alerted.
“It was around 11PM local time when I saw through the windows eight men dressed in military uniforms and heavily armed who surrounded the entire residence.
Immediately I called the city police commander. When these men heard the roar of the police pickup, they fled from behind and left through the airport commander’s residence,” Beya told Actualite.CD in an interview on Saturday.
Beya claimed that the armed military officers returned to the residence hours later and only left until 2 AM the next morning after failing to gain access into the building.
The armed officers are also said to got away with a tyre off an old vehicle behind the house and left a containers full of gasoline as they fled.
The military returned the following day with little or no success on their mission.
