MASSACRE OF MAKALA PRISONERS: Katumbi Demands Independent UN Inquiry

Opposition leader Moise Katumbi has demanded for an independent inquiry into the barbaric massacre of over 126 prisoners at Makala Correctional Facility in Kinshasa.

The Ensemble Pour la République leader has also asked a government official who announced that there was only two deaths in the fracas to resign and face serious consequences.

Katumbi writes on X,

“The indignation at the blindness of the leaders is blatant! Since his release, @StanysBujakera has continued to courageously warn about the inhumane conditions in Makala prison. Overcrowding. hunger, disease, and the total lack of hygiene have been denounced, with images to support their claims.

“But the authorities preferred to ignore these warnings. The worst has finally happened: several dozen prisoners were slaughtered like animals in an unbearable barbarity, A vice-minister had the indecency to announce two deaths. He must resign.

“Today, his superior speaks of 129 victims. including 24 killed by gunfire, not counting the rapes and the wounded. Who should we really believe in this cacophony of lies? I call for the establishment of a serious commission of inquiry involving MONUSCO and representatives of human rights NGOs to shed full light on this massacre.

“This carnage could have been avoided if the leaders had listened to the advice. They bear an overwhelming share of responsibility for this horrible tragedy!”
