The family of late former Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba has suspended all public activities planned to be conducted at the national hero’s mausoleum.
The decision follows after the mausoleum was desecrated and vandalized by thieves who attempted to steal Lumumba’s golden tooth at the premises.
Public activities were planned to be held this Friday, January 17 as part of the commemoration of the 64th anniversary of the assassination of the country’s very first Prime Minister.
On Thursday, Roland Lumumba, son of the national hero, declared that no public activities will be held at the mausoleum until the authorities provide details of their investigation into the theft attempt incident.
“Tomorrow, there will be no public activity as to the commemoration of national hero Patrice Emery Lumumba. As long as the Lumumba family does not have the results of the ongoing investigations into the desecration of his mausoleum, no activity the public will not stand. As for the mass in its memory, since we are Christians, we will take her to the family residence,” Mr. Lumumba said.
