LIBERATION HAS COME: AFC/M23 Calls For Calm From Citizens After Taking Control of Goma

The Alliance Fleuve du Congo (AFC) and M23 rebel-coalition have officially taken over the provincial capital of North Kivu Province, Goma, after the Congo Armed Forces (FARDC) surrendered.

AFC/M23 politico-military coalition have issued a statement to officially confirm their victory in Goma and have since called for calm from the local populations.

In their statement, AFC/M23 have described the development as a “glorious day marking the liberation of city of Goma.”

AFC/M23 have also officially announced the end of their 48hour ultimatum issued for the FARDC to surrender their equipment to the UN Peacekeeping Mission (MONUSCO).

Furthermore, they have suspended any movements around Lake Kivu and also urge the citizens to remain calm.
