The DR Congo electoral commission, CENI on Friday launch the awareness campaign calling on eligible citizens to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming 20 December 2023 Presidential Elections.
CENI President Dénis Kadima Kazadi launched the campaign in the presence of the commission’s plenary committee members at the Beatrice Hotel in the Congolese capital, Kinshasa.
Kadima revealed that the commission was pleased to inform the public that the electoral was on course with the verification of the 24 candidates’ nomination files completed.
“Yesterday (Thursday), the CENI published the provisional list of candidates declared admissible and inadmissible for the election of the President of the Republic. Of the total of 24 applications received, all were deemed compliant and declared admissible” Kadima said.
Kadima said CENI would launch a countrywide program to sensitize the Congolese citizens and stakeholders on the voting process with the newly introduced electronic voting system.
“Exactly two months away from the polls, it is now a matter of preparing voters to play their role properly on Wednesday, December 20, 2023” Kadima said.
“It is time to train and inform voters and all stakeholders about legal and regulatory provisions relating to election operations as well as conduct to be held in a polling station and in front of the electronic voting device.
The issue is the maximum mobilization of the voters and the inclusion of all categories of citizens for quality participation” Kadima said.
Kadima also revealed that the electoral process had since reached the final stage of verification by the Constitutional Court that is expected to be completed as stipulated in seven days time.
“Candidates for President of the Republic included on the provisional list will be notified without delay. Complaints and disputes relating to the validity of an application are brought before the Constitutional Court within 48 hours following publication of notification of the CENI Decision.
And the Constitutional Court rules without costs within seven days following the expiration of the deadline mentioned,” he said.
