The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Court of Cassation has sentenced former Minister of Rural Development François Rubota to three years in prison for “conflict of interest” in the borehole drilling scandal.
Rubota has been prosecuted for embezzling funds allocated for the construction of drilling stations across the country.
The drilling project was born from a contract signed on April 21, 2021 and awarded to Stevers Construct – Sotrod Water consortium.
Under this contract, 1,000 boreholes in 1,000 locations across the DRC were to be installed for a total amount of US$ 398.9 million.
