The DR Congo Constitutional Court has pushed out opposition candidate Seth Kikuni’s petition of incumbent President Fèlix Tshisekedi’s candidacy in the upcoming 20 December General Elections.
Kikuni who is also among the 24 candidates in the running for president, filed his petition on Monday 23 October 2023 requesting the Constitutional Court to invalidate Tshisekedi’s candidacy citing various irregularities committed by the sitting president.
But as anticipated, on Friday 27 October 2023, the Constitutional Court declared Kikuni’s challenge against Tshisekedi’s candidacy “inadmissable” before the court.
The petition has been declared in admissable for having been submitted five days after CENI’s publication of the list of successful nomination files.
The Congolese electoral law stipulates that petitions against presidential candidacies must be submitted within forty-eight (48) hours within the publication of the candidates’ list by CENI.
Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court has also declared inadmissible a petition against opposition Moïse Katumbi’s candidacy by an unknown Tshivuadi Mansanga Junior.
