A total of 140 inmates at Kwilu Province’s Idiofa Central Prison have been held at the detained at the facility for years without undergoing trial owing to lack of law administers in the town.
Arsène Kasiama, a coordinator of the new civil society in Idiofa, has called on the government to quickly address this situation as well as the deplorable and inhumane environment at the facility.
“There are many inmates in Idiofa Central Prison. With 140 inmates, none convicted. They are in a deplorable state in any case. Even health is really deplorable. They live in very, very deplorable conditions. They have spent more than three years even without being brought before their natural judge because the chief prosecutor is alone, the president is also alone in court. It is practically impossible to bring these people to justice because these are criminal cases,” Kasiama warns.
The lack of magistrates in Idiofa dates back to several years with the judicial system in the territory left paralyzed and in this case can only depend on the Republican President to administer the law.
Similar situation have also prevailed in other areas of Kwilu Province including Bagata and Gungu territories.
