JAILED WITHOUT JUDGEMENT: Mike Mukebayi’s Trial Postponed Again as Former Opposition MP Clocks 20 Months in Jail

Opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique’s former Provincial MP Mike Mukebayi’s trial has been postponed once again by the court.

The hearing scheduled for Friday, January 10 for the purposes of delivering the actual judgment was postponed with Court of the Appeal not considering taking the time to notify the defendants prior to their decision.

The postponement likely to take at least two weeks indefinitely prolongs the detention of Mukebayi who remains imprisoned at Makala.

Mukebayi has now clocked twenty months in Makala dungeon without the court delivering its judgment.

The defense lawyers have since seized the first president of the Kinshasa-Gombe Court of Appeal to obtain a reduction in the deadline for the postponement.

They are making it a test of the said good faith of the Minister of State in charge of Justice, Constant Mutamba, regarding his profession and the guarantee of a fair administration of justice.

Mukebayi was arrest in May, 2023 on charges of inciting the public after showing his support for the family of a minor who was the victim of violence during demonstrations by the opposition.
