The Luanda Peace Process for the restoration of peace between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda has now reached an intricate deadlock.
This comes after Rwanda clearly stated that it will no longer participate in the talks as they demand commitment from the DR Congo to dialogue with the M23 rebels.
Rwanda insists that it does not have any of its troops supporting the M23 rebels in Congolese territory and insists that DR Congo must find a solution to the situation which is a national issue.
However, DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi remains adamant that he will not negotiate with the M23 whom he regards as “criminals and terrorists.”
Tshisekedi has swore not to have anything to do with the M23 who continue to plunge the eastern region into war and advance into strategic territories of North Kivu Province.
The situation now remains volatile due to the two nations’ lack of cooperation while as the populations continue to suffer the adverse effects of the ongoing war.
