INTERNET BLACKOUTS: Major Internet Disruptions In DRC Caused By SNEL’s Optical Fiber Outage

Since Friday, the Democratic Republic of Congo has been experiencing continuous internet disruptions that had affected almost telecommunications providers in the country.

The Post & Telecommunications Regulatory Agency of the Congo (ARPTC) have since revealed that a major outage on the national electricity company, SNEL’s fiber optic network has been the cause of the internet disruptions mostly affecting Moanda and Kasumbalesa since Friday.

ARPTC added the outage had been the main cause for the deteriorated internet connections and also affected both internet as well as telecommunications providers entirely.

The Congolese telecommunications regulatory further added that it had engaged SNEL who had already sent a technical team on the ground to rectify the problem.

Vodacom Congo, one of the leading telecom companies in the DRC, has informed its customers it will offer extended internet packages that have been affected by the interruptions.
