Democratic Republic of Congo’s international journalist Stanis Bujakera has been nominated for the Index on Censorship’s Journalist of the Year Award for the year 2024.
Bujakera, the chief editor at Actualite and Jeune Afrique correspondent, has nominated for the award after managing to withstand oppression and incarceration by Félix Tshisekedi regime.
After spending more than six months in prison, Bujakera was released by Congolese authorities after he was cleared of the trumped up charges of spreading falsehoods which were incited by the Tshisekedi regime.
Bujakera was accused of having published facts about the assassination of opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique party spokesperson and Communications Minister Cherubin Okende who was murdered by the Tshisekedi regime prior to the 2023 elections.
