HUMANITARIAN TRUCE BROKEN: New Fighting Breaks Out in Eastern DRC

Fresh fighting between M23 rebels and the local Wazalendo militia group, supported by the Congolese army, has broke out on Sunday in north of Butembo of North Kivu Province.

Sources reveal that a group Wazalendo initiated the attacks targeting a certain rebel positions hence forcing the M23 to retaliate.

Heavy and light weapon fire were heard in the morning thus forcing residents to stay home out of fear.

Churches were unable to open their doors this Sunday morning as shooting only stopped around 10AM local time and residents began to go out.

This incident incident comes in the middle of a two-week humanitarian truce that began on July 4, at the proposal of the US government.
