The European Union (EU) has announced that it is sent to disburse €60 million to help displaced people in the DR Congo’s war-torn North Kivu region.
In a statement made public on Tuesday 28 January 2025, the EU disclosed that this will be an initial amount it spend on humanitarian assistance to the DRC in the year 2025.
The new funding will support the needs urgent displaced populations and persons affected by recent conflicts and epidemics.
Following the latest developments in the humanitarian situation in the eastern region, the EU says it is prepared to stimulate emergency assistance, particularly for the newly displaced populations in and around Goma.
The assistance includes inter alia, shelter and camps, toilets and latrines, basic food rations or cash transfers, emergency education for the most vulnerable children to whom the conflicts are most vulnerable.
As the major donor for the humanitarian response in the DRC, this new funding brings the total humanitarian assistance spent on the DRC to over €272 million since early 2023.
