At least nine people have and several others left injured during gospel singer Mike Kalambay’s live concert held at Kinshasa’s Pentecost Martyrs Stadium on Saturday.
Scores of Congolese residents had flocked the 80,000 capacity stadium and struggled to gain entrance resulting into disaster.
A 10-year old child is also among that had lost their lives during the uncontrollable scuffle at the ill-organized event where there was insufficient security.
Kinshasa Governor Daniel Bumba has released a statement blaming the disaster on the organizers of the concert, Maajabu Gospel, as well as the police officers assigned to provide the security at the event.
Maajabu Gospel have blamed “troublemakers” for causing the disaster while insisting that just 30,000 people had attended the event despite photos taken at the event showing scenes of overcrowding.
