Democratic Republic of Congo President Félix Tshisekedi has hired a battalion of foreign soldiers for his protection following last month’s failed coup d’etat attempt.
Tshisekedi’s office at the Palais de la Nation in the capital Kinshasa was on 19th May, 2024 momentarily occupied by Christian Malanga before armed forces intervened to avert the coup attempt.
In fear for his life, Tshisekedi has recruited a group of soldiers from Europe for his physical security.
Tshisekedi has dismissed several army trained Republican guards citing incompetence and imposing misery on the Congolese people.
Mercenary elements have been seen guarding Tshisekedi on his recent tour of in Haut-Katanga Province city of Lubumbashi.
