FORMER CAF BOSS MOURNED: Katumbi Mourns Hayatou

African football supremo and TP Mazembe owner Moïse Katumbi has sent a message of condolences for the passing of long-serving former CAF President Issa Hayatou.

In a message published on his official X account, Katumbi remembered the Cameroonian for his exemplary leadership and character, values which he urged the current CAF administration to uphold.

“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the departure of President Issa Hayatou. The world of African football mourns the loss of a great leader, known for his generosity, his warm spirit and his unwavering dedication to the sport. I would like to express my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May the values ​​of friendship, fraternity and sharing that he has cultivated throughout his life continue to inspire all CAF officials” Katumbi wrote.

Messages of condolences continue to pour out from around the global football fraternity for Hayatou with seating CAF President Patrice Motsepe also delivering a note on behalf of the continental football governing body.

“I express my deepest personal condolences and the condolences of the 54 CAF Member Associations, on the passing of CAF former President, President Issa Hayatou; to his family, the Fédération Camerounaise de Football, its President Samuel Eto’o and the people of Cameroon. CAF and African Football will forever be grateful to President Hayatou for his enormous and far-reaching contributions, over many years to the development and growth of football in Africa. He will forever live in our hearts and minds.”

Hayatou who spent 29 years at the head of CAF, died on Thursday at the age of 77.
