FINAL STRETCH: DRC 2023 Elections Preps In Home Run

The electoral process is almost approaching its home stretch in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It’s not perfect, but many believe it can be done. And in the current situation, there are only two possibilities: either you engage in the process and you assume everything that comes with it; or you refuse and wait for the next opportunity in 2027.

Indeed, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) is very determined to respect its electoral calendar. It does not envisage any possible return. In January 2024, an elected or re-elected president will have to be sworn in. The period for submitting candidacies for the national legislative elections has been successfully closed. I wonder if there is still room for doubt and procrastination.

The final sprint…

At present, the major milestones remaining in the electoral process in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are as follows:-

– Submission of candidacies for the provincial and local legislative elections (August 02, 2023).

– Submission of candidacies for the presidential election (September 1, 2023).

– Making ballot papers.

– Election Campaign (November 19 to December 18, 2023).

– Holding the actual polls on December 20.
